Biblioteca del Tec de Monterrey (CDMX)

Located on the Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Mexico City campus, the Library was conceived as part of the institution’s comprehensive campus renewal following the 2017 earthquake. More than a replacement for traditional academic facilities, the project was designed to embody the principles of the Tec21 Educational Model, creating a collaborative environment that supports interdisciplinary learning, innovation, and student-centered experiences.

From the earliest stages of design, Beck Group faced the challenge of creating a building that would go beyond the conventional role of a library. The vision was to develop a flexible, multifunctional destination capable of adapting to evolving learning methods while serving as a gathering place for the campus community. This concept gave rise to a distinctive “glass box” design, whose transparency reflects the openness, connectivity, and forward-thinking spirit that define both the institution and its academic culture.

The building envelope played a critical role in bringing this vision to life. The design sought to maximize daylight penetration and exterior views while maintaining occupant comfort and overall building performance. Complemented by aluminum sunshades, automated blinds, and a smart daylight control system guided by an astronomical clock, the facade responds dynamically to changing sunlight conditions throughout the day, creating bright, comfortable, and visually connected interior spaces.

Today, the Tecnológico de Monterrey Library stands as a benchmark for contemporary educational architecture, demonstrating how thoughtful design, advanced technology, and sustainable strategies can come together to create learning environments that are more open, adaptable, and aligned with the needs of future generations.
